SEC still rules the NCAA:
There’s a lot of uncertainty in college football this season. It’s expected that one team from the South Eastern Conference will be represented in the National Championship game. Which team depends on a number of factors. Expect the Alabama Crimson Tide to be at the top of the league. Urban Meyer and Florida are always a threat to win the National Championship. It’s going to be a different quarterback under center for the Gators. Gone is the hero of all Gainsville, Tim Tebow. John Brantley will look to continue the great tradition of Florida quarterbacks.
Brantley and Tebow have vastly different styles. Tebow was always a dual threat. Brantley is more of a prototypical pocket passer. It will be more of a traditional spread offense with Brantley running the show. Tebow didn’t always throw the ball well, that shouldn’t be a problem with Brantley. Brantley has spent the last three season backing up Tebow, so he knows the offense. WIll Brantley have the late game heroics that Gators fans expected from Tebow? Only game action can prove that. Brantley has Chris Rainey in the slot. Meyer expects Rainey to be the home run hitter that Percy Harvin used to be for Florida. Rainey has the skill and speed to take it to the end zone every time he touches the ball. That’s why Meyer cannot wait to see Rainey play in the slot for the Gators this season.
Arkansas has quarterback that is looking to have a career season. Ryan Mallett is recovering from a broken foot during winter drills. He’s focused on team goals, but with the skill players for the Hogs in Bobby Petrino’s system, expect a few SEC quarterback records to fall this season. Brantley isn’t the only quarterback starting his first season as a starter in the SEC. Georgia, Mississippi, Auburn, Tennessee and Mississippi State are all starting new quarterbacks this season. Ole Miss expected Oregon transfer Jeremiah Masoli to not have to sit a year, but the request was denied by the NCAA. Masoli would’ve instantly made the Rebels an upper echelon team in the SEC, but it’s not to be. Ole Miss will be good once Masoli begins play next season.
The SEC is always a stacked conference. They recruit some of the best players in the nation. Their coaches are the best teachers. It shows during conference season, along with the domination exhibited during bowl games. There’s a lot of changes. It’s going to be interesting to see which team emerges in the East and West division. The top two teams in each division will provide a great game in New Orleans for the conference championship game. It will probably decide which team represents the conference in the BCS National Championship game.
